About the EDA
The Mathews County EDA fosters economic growth, supports local businesses, and connects investors with opportunity — while protecting everything that makes this county worth investing in.
Who we are
Mathews County is not a place you develop. It is a place you protect and cultivate — carefully, with full understanding of what makes it rare. The EDA's job is to hold both of those things in the same hand.
We work with existing businesses to help them grow, with entrepreneurs to help them start, and with landowners and investors to ensure that the right projects find a clear path forward. We coordinate with state and federal agencies, nonprofits, and county government so that the pieces move together instead of in parallel.
We are a small office. That is not a limitation — it is the point. Every conversation here matters. Every business that calls us gets a real person who knows this county.
Mission
"To foster, encourage, and stimulate economic development — in ways that strengthen Mathews County's character, not despite it."
What we focus on
Our role is to connect strategy to action — supporting business growth, improving site readiness, and coordinating partners so investment decisions can move faster and with greater confidence.
Help local businesses expand, solve operational barriers, and connect to incentives, workforce partners, and capital. The businesses already here are the economy's foundation.
Do Business Here →Improve visibility of available properties, align utilities and zoning pathways, and streamline early due diligence. When the right project calls, we want to have answers ready.
Available Properties →Use data to guide priorities — targeting quality jobs, resilient tax base growth, and community-aligned development that strengthens Mathews' character rather than diluting it.
